Frequently Asked Questions About Remodeling and Renovations

What is included with a free estimate?

Our free remodeling estimates include a detailed written scope of work. Everything will be itemized and will include all materials, labor, and overhead. We pride ourselves on being transparent with our pricing in order to better serve our clients.

How long will my project take?

When discussing your estimate with you, time will be spent going over the duration of your project. The key piece in a timely completion of your project is for you to be available during the process so you can select your finishes, products, etc. In addition, we will need access to your home during work hours (Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm) to ensure that we are able to come as needed to keep your project moving forward efficiently.

How much will my construction/remodeling project cost?

Projects will vary drastically depending on your desired finishes and budget. Joseph and/or Justin will personally meet with you to better understand your wants and needs for your completed renovation. Winterwood always takes the extra steps to provide valuable insight, recommendations, and advice to help you make the final decisions for your home.

Joseph and Justin will thoroughly go through your estimate with you and explain details pertaining to each area of your project. We will answer all of your questions and explain our estimates in a clear, transparent manner.

There is no obligation. Provide us with your dream, allow us some time to put pen to paper, and we will deliver you with a complete estimate. We believe that any type of construction project works best when a foundation of mutual trust is laid between client and contractor. And Winterwood believes that an excellently informed client is our best customer.

Do you use subcontractors?

Yes, we employ fully licensed and insured subcontractors. The subcontractors we utilize have been with us for many years. Winterwood is a father/son owned and operated business - we are proud to say that many of our subcontractors are family owned and operated businesses as well.

Will there be a big mess during our project?

Construction is messy, dusty, and dirty. That mess leads to something beautiful though. We do find it extremely important to note that Winterwood Associates is known for our clean sites. There will never be debris laying around at the end of a work day, entrances to other living areas of your home will be sealed, dumpsters will be promptly cleared. We invite you to look on our social media accounts at ongoing projects and take notice of the debris, or lack there of.

Is working with a residential contractor worth the money?

If you have a home renovation in mind, you must decide: will you hire a professional to complete the project or attempt to DIY? The prospect of “saving money” is generally the leading reason homeowners consider the do-it-yourself route.

We advise you to give some thought to the following questions before tackling a DIY renovation on your home:

◦ Do you have the time?

◦ Will you remain motivated to see the project to completion in a timely manner?

◦ Do you have the skills, tools, and expertise necessary?

◦ Are you able to complete to code the necessary plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work?

◦ Are you able to obtain the mandatory and correct permits for your project?

◦ Do you have architectural plans to present to your township?

◦ Do you have the skillset to solve any unforeseen problems?

Generally, for large scale projects, homeowners can save themselves time, avoid stress and costly mistakes, and ensure the end result displays the craftsmanship desired by hiring the correct contractor to handle the renovation.

When is the best time to remodel my home?

Home remodeling can be performed year round depending on the project. Renovation/remodel of interior spaces can generally be completed any time of year - though there are some aspects that can be weather dependent. For example, when constructing a home addition, all foundation or footing work should be complete when temperatures are above freezing.

During your initial consultation, we will address any questions you may have regarding the timeline of your project.

Do I have to worry about any permits?

Winterwood Associates will file for all of your construction permits.
